This antependium illustrate the Adoration of the shepherds in an open landscape. We can see ruins in the background.

The composition is inspired by a drawing by Parmigianino (1503 - 1540) widely spread in 1526 thanks to engravings.

The presence of St. Francis and St. Clare could mean that the tapestry was woven for a religious order following the rule of St. Francis.
